Stroke patients need care - fast. The quicker a stroke patient receives treatment, the more likely he or she will have a successful recovery, which is why it matters where you go for stroke care.
About Our Center
UPMC Hamot is certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by DNV GL Healthcare. The hospital has also received the Get with The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Award as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for two consecutive calendar years or more.
In addition, UPMC Hamot is listed on the Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll and Target: Stroke Advanced Therapy Honor Roll. These certifications mean our stroke team gets eligible patients suffering from a stroke to care faster and efficiently, often leading to better clinical outcomes.
UPMC Hamot offers advanced stroke treatment 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing round-the-clock access to neurosurgery, neurointerventional radiology, and neurology services, as well as specially trained neuro critical care nurses, rehabilitation services, and follow up care.
UPMC Hamot is also the only endovascular capable center in the region, offering endovascular clot retrieval therapy for acute ischemic stroke 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Stroke and TIA Bridge Clinic
After our stroke patients are discharged from the hospital, we continue to provide follow up care through our Bridge Clinic. The clinic, which is intended for both stroke and TIA patients, bridges the gap between the hospital and home by providing both evaluation and support. Our specialists help place patients on the right path for preventing another stroke or TIA and assist with any physical or emotional problems that may occur after stroke.
