$4 Billion Total

Working in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh and a wide range of community organizations, we are committed to improving the health of the communities we serve, and addressing the pressing, health-related needs of our neighbors.

A powerful engine of growth and progress, UPMC strengthens Pennsylvania’s economy in a variety of ways. In addition to contributing more than half of all hospital-funded research in the state, UPMC is the region’s largest non-governmental employer and provides an important training ground for future health care leaders. UPMC is also a major driver for the local economy, which helps to strengthen the places we call home.

Connecting with Community Health Needs

In Fiscal Year 2022, each of UPMC’s licensed hospitals completed a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA). Building on the initial CHNAs conducted in Fiscal Years 2013, 2016, and 2019, the Fiscal Year 2022 CHNAs provided an opportunity for the hospitals to re-engage with community stakeholders in a rigorous, structured process guided by public health experts. These assessments identify important local health issues, and support a coordinated, system-wide community health strategy that extends across the regions UPMC serves.
