Psychiatric Consultation, Liaison, and Long-Term Care Services extend psychiatric care into the medical/surgical hospitals of UPMC.
Consultation is provided for individual patients when requested by the treating physician. Liaison work assists physicians, nurses, and other professionals in their work with patients with psychiatric or emotional problems.
Patients in long-term care settings often face complex social, medical, and emotional problems. Their families and the direct care staff are also confronted with these challenges.
In response to this need, UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital has developed a model of psychiatric consultation and intervention to address these problems.
In this model of care, a clinical team provides assessment and ongoing services for residents according to their unique needs, including medication management and supportive therapies.
The team provides the staff and families with critical knowledge needed for handling challenging mental health issues and patient behaviors.
