Through our academic partnership with the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, we support a number of research projects to advance the understanding of mental illness and the quality of care for patients.
Our patients directly benefit in a timely way from the latest advances in psychiatric care, including modern diagnosis and assessment based on innovative methodologies. Many patients who have been treated elsewhere without success can find help at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital.
A variety of treatment and service programs are under study, targeting the young through elderly patient populations suffering from a wide range of problems. Patients and their families always have the option to participate in any of these clinical research programs.
As an academic partner of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry consistently rank first nationally in psychiatric research funding from the National Institutes of Health.
