UPMC Sjögren’s Disease Center

If you have Sjögren’s disease, formerly known as Sjögren’s syndrome, our dedicated center serves you in Oakland, a neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pa. This location is where we see people for their first visit with us.

Follow-up appointments can be made at our Oakland location inside the UPMC Arthritis and Autoimmunity Center or via telemedicine. In-person annual visits are recommended.

What Can I Expect?

At your first visit, we offer:

  • A comprehensive physical exam.
  • A thorough review of your history and symptoms.
  • Dry eye testing.
  • Laboratory testing (if needed).
  • Saliva production measurement.
  • Salivary gland ultrasound.

We also provide comprehensive counseling for dryness-related symptoms and other manifestations beyond the glands and risk of lymphoma to ensure a holistic approach to managing all aspects of the condition.

While new patients should have a Sjögren’s disease diagnosis, we offer a minor salivary gland biopsy each month to assist in diagnosis, when medically necessary.

We also partner with the following subspecialities to provide multidisciplinary care:

Why Choose UPMC for Care?

We are the first dedicated Sjögren’s Disease Center in the greater Pittsburgh area, serving Southwest Pa.

At UPMC, you can also expect seamless care across multiple disciplines. We partner with the UPMC Vision Institute on a monthly dry eye clinic at UPMC Mercy Pavilion.

Our experts are also building a research program. These studies will allow them to learn about and better understand Sjögren’s and conduct research that will fuel the development of future therapies.
