MammoMarathon

Held in the fall at the UPMC Hamot Women’s Imaging Center at Sterling Square, the MammoMarathon is an annual breast health event that incorporates shopping, pampering, and snacking to make your mammogram more fun.

In addition to performing potentially life-saving mammograms, the event also offers other activities such as:

  • Free manicures
  • Massages
  • A book sale
  • A basket raffle
  •  Movies and popcorn
  • Pixi scans, tests to measure the strength of your bones

According to the National Cancer Institute, women age 40 and older should have a mammogram every one to two years. Women who are at higher-than-average risk of developing breast cancer should talk with their health care providers about whether to have mammograms before age 40 and how often to have them.

Annual Wear Red Heart Awareness Expo

Wear Red is an opportunity for women to express support for the prevention and detection of heart disease, the number one threat to women’s health.

Free screenings are conducted, including:

  • Body mass index
  • Stroke risk assessment

Cholesterol and blood sugar testing is also offered at a discounted rate. Lectures about heart health topics are presented onstage. Women enjoy complimentary refreshments and a raffle while shopping at some local vendors.
