The surgeons at UPMC Hamot Bariatric Surgery and Weight Management Center offer various treatments for
gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
LINX® Reflux Management System
LINX®, a newer option for treating GERD, uses a ring of small magnets to keep the lower esophagus closed.
The surgeon places the ring during a minimally invasive procedure.
Once in place, the ring works like a valve. It helps keep reflux out of the throat while still allowing food and drink to pass through.

Nissen fundoplication
This minimally invasive surgery involves wrapping the upper part of the stomach on itself.
It helps the muscles at the base of the food pipe (esophagus) stay closed to reduce reflux.
Stretta®
Stretta uses an endoscopic probe to stimulate the muscles joining the esophagus and stomach. The muscles strengthen over time and may help reduce reflux.
