Our Intensive Outpatient Program for Children With OCD

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts and/or repetitive behaviors. While OCD can arise at any time during a person's life, it frequently emerges during childhood and adolescence.

The intensive outpatient program at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital provides more intense and frequent services than traditional outpatient treatment, but is less restrictive than an inpatient program.

About the Pediatric OCD Intensive Outpatient Program

Who we treat

• School-age children who have a primary diagnosis of OCD
• Younger children on a case-by-case basis

Program times

We offer two tracks of our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) year round during the school year and summer months, including:.

• Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 9am-12pm
• Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays 3pm-6pm.

Your child's treatment

• At the start of the program, each participant receives a thorough evaluation by a trained therapist to determine if the program is right for him or her
• Your child receives personalized treatment from our skilled team of therapists, child psychiatrists, and other professionals
• Learn more about the treatments available through the Pediatric OCD Program

Medications

• Medication is a treatment option, but is not mandatory for participation in the program
• The treatment team works with you and your child to determine if medication may be useful
