Our expert team of specialists works closely with regional emergency responders to prepare for the arrival of trauma patients, ensuring optimum pre-hospital treatment. Once at UPMC Mercy, our patients have access to a wide range of specialists who can support their immediate and long-term needs, including neurosurgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, pediatricians, and geriatric specialists.
The UPMC Mercy Trauma Center is an integral part of UPMC Trauma Care System, the largest and most experienced trauma system in Pennsylvania, and one of the nation’s most comprehensive trauma systems. In fact, UPMC’s trauma and emergency care leaders created the definitive reference tool used by trauma surgeons worldwide, The Trauma Manual.

Our commitment to trauma patients continues through their recovery. UPMC Mercy is part of the nationally ranked UPMC Rehabilitation Institute, offering our patients access to extensive, onsite state-of-the-art rehabilitation services.
Our rehabilitation team includes board-certified physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapists, and speech, music, and recreational therapists.
