Only medical students in LCME (allopathic) or AOA (osteopathic) medical schools are eligible to serve clinical clerkships at UPMC Mercy.
Complete the electronic application. Please submit only one application and include on it all of the clerkships in which you are interested. The Office of Medical Education and Research will route your application to the appropriate clinical departments for review and approval.
The appropriate clinical departments will notify medical students regarding acceptance into the clerkship program. Following approval, medical students will be contacted with information concerning the procedures for reporting at the beginning of the rotation. It is important that you provide us with a correct address for correspondence to be sent to you.
The Office of Medical Education and Research must receive a letter of approval from the dean of your medical school verifying that the school approves the rotation.
UPMC Mercy requires all participants in its medical education programs to meet UPMC Mercy's health requirements. Once your clerkship has been approved, the Office of Medical Education and Research will forward you a Health and Infection Control Requirements Form. This form is to be completed by the parent institution's health service office and returned prior to commencing your clerkship.

A Certificate of Insurance for liability insurance is required for all medical students. This document can be obtained from your dean of student affairs' Office and is to be forwarded to the Office of Medical Education and Research at UPMC Mercy prior to commencing a clerkship.
Neither personal health insurance nor auto and accident/liability coverage is provided by UPMC Mercy for clerkship students.
All clinical clerks agree that while participating in the clerkship program they will abide by UPMC Mercy’s Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and all other applicable policies (rules and regulations include the Medical Education Policy on Conduct).
The PA Child Abuse History (ACT 33), PA Criminal Record Check (ACT 34), and the FBI Fingerprint Criminal History (ACT 73) clearances are required.
