Linda Cetra was born with dominant optic atrophy, a rare genetic disorder that causes the optic nerve to break down and leads to vision loss.
In her early years, Linda wore glasses, but her vision got progressively worse. She was eventually determined to be legally blind and lost her ability to drive and engage in activities she enjoyed. But Linda was determined not to let her blindness get in her way, and she continued to work. Sewing, reading, and crafting are some of her favorite pastimes.
“Thanks to the Eye and Ear Foundation of Pittsburgh, I was able to obtain devices that helped me with working at my job and with activities of daily living,” Linda says.
She is also grateful to the assistance she received from the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
“OVR came to my house to put “bump dots” and other adaptive solutions for me to feel my stove, appliance controls. They showed me different ways of doing activities of daily living.”
