UPMC

Access Innovation Award from the Patient Access Collaborative

The Access Innovation of the Year Award recognizes organizations that are driving meaningful improvements in patient access through innovation, technology, and operational excellence.

UPMC Scheduling Services earned this award for its transformational work to unify and modernize scheduling operations across the health system. The team supports access to care across more than 180 specialties, with over 550 nonclinical scheduling specialists and 75 leaders supporting 5,700 providers across 500 inbound and outbound phone lines in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and New York.

Key innovations recognized include:

• Migration to a unified Cisco telephony and chat platform.
• Development of Template Academy to standardize Epic scheduling education and workflows.
• Support of UPMC’s Epic Bridges transition to a single electronic health record system.
• Optimization of more than 120 Epic decision trees and 4,500 scheduling templates to improve scheduling accuracy and efficiency.

The team also demonstrated measurable operational and workforce improvements, including:

• Supporting more than 7 million inbound and outbound patient calls annually.
• Achieving 50 percent growth in centralized scheduling over two-year period.

Best Employers Award: Excellence in Health & Well-being

In 2026, UPMC was one of 56 employers honored with the prestigious Business Group on Health Best Employers Award: Excellence in Health & Well-being for exemplary commitment to advancing employee well-being through comprehensive and innovative benefits and initiatives. This marks the 15th time that UPMC has received this recognition.

Best Insurance Company for Medicare Advantage

In 2026, UPMC for Life again earned the highest member satisfaction ranking among Medicare Advantage plans in Pennsylvania in the JD Power U.S. Medicare Advantage Satisfaction Study. This marks the fourth consecutive year that UPMC for Life has achieved the No. 1 ranking, underscoring the plan's ongoing commitment to delivering an outstanding experience for its members.

The JD Power U.S. Medicare Advantage Satisfaction Study measures member satisfaction across key aspects of the health plan experience, from trust and access to care to customer service and digital tools. UPMC for Life received the highest score in Pennsylvania for the 2026 study and has ranked first in the state every year since 2023.

Best Places to Work for People with Disabilities

In 2025, UPMC achieved a score of 100 on the 2025 Disability Equality Index and was recognized as one of the “2025 Best Places to Work for People with Disabilities.” This was the second time that UPMC has been awarded this designation, and a score of 100 indicates adherence to many leading disability inclusion practices.

Catalyst Award

In 2023, UPMC received the Catalyst Award in recognition of a two-pronged strategy of external recruitment and internal development that was designed to ensure that UPMC's executive workforce is reflective of the communities it serves.

National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Ratings

In 2026, eight UPMC Insurance Services Division products received NCQA Health Plan Ratings of 4 stars or higher. Highlights include:

• UPMC Commercial HMO products issued by UPMC Health Plan Inc. and administered by UPMC Benefit Management Services Inc. earned 5 out of 5 stars in NCQA’s Commercial Health Plan Ratings 2026, making them the top-rated commercial HMO plans in Pennsylvania and among the top 1.6 percent nationally.
• UPMC Benefit Management Services is among the top-rated commercial EPO/PPO plans in Pennsylvania, receiving 4.5 stars in NCQA’s Commercial Health Plan Ratings 2026. It is among the top 6 percent nationally.
• UPMC for You is among the top 6 percent of Medicaid plans in the nation, maintaining 4.5 stars in NCQA’s Medicaid Health Plan Ratings 2026. No Pennsylvania plans received a 5-star rating, and only two other plans in the state attained a 4.5-star rating. Both of those plans operate exclusively in the Community HealthChoices program.

In addition to achieving strong Health Plan Ratings, all eight Insurance Services Division products are NCQA Health Plan Accredited. NCQA Accreditation recognizes health plans that demonstrate excellence in managing and improving the quality of care, member experience, and operational performance across their provider network and administrative services.

Stevie^® Awards for Sales & Customer Service

The Stevie^® Awards are globally recognized as the premier business honors, celebrating outstanding achievements and contributions by organizations and professionals across industries. They rank among the top accolades for excellence in customer service, sales, business development, and contact center performance. 

UPMC Health Plan earned seven Stevie^® Awards – including Customer Service Award of the Year – Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, and Related Industries category.

UPMC has been awarded the highest possible rating of three stars in three procedures across five different UPMC locations by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).
