At UPMC, we strive to do everything we can to support future generations. That's why we're a proud partner and sponsor of Junior Achievement BizTown®.
In JA BizTown, elementary and middle school students take part in an interactive mock community that features "storefronts" of familiar local businesses. They work for those businesses, earn money, and make financial decisions both as an employee and consumer.
Before coming to BizTown, students go through nine hours of curriculum delivered in 12 classroom sessions. They learn how to write checks and keep a check register, help customers, and become business owners. They also learn about the jobs available at BizTown and apply and interview for the jobs they're interested in.
Their experience in BizTown lasts 4 hours and 30 minutes. They work together at the storefronts they applied to, learning what it takes to do a day's work and maintain a business. They get help from volunteers and representatives of the companies. UPMC operates one of the storefronts, where students interested in health care can work.
JA Biztown aims to provide students with a real-world, hands-on experience that they can't get in a classroom.
At UPMC, we're proud to do what we can to support learning opportunities. Because Life Changing Medicine means being there for the next generation.
