Life Changing Is ... Serving Those Who Served

At UPMC, we recognize the extraordinary contributions of our veterans and the unique skill set they bring to our workforce. We also know transitioning from service to a civilian career can be challenging for many veterans and active military members.

UPMC offers a variety of programs, initiatives, and hiring events to help veterans and their families find meaningful and rewarding careers. We partner with two dozen programs and organizations to support our veterans, including Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania, Outdoor Odyssey, and Veterans Breakfast Club.

Providing a Pathway for Veterans and Their Families

UPMC was named a top-10 Military Friendly Employer in 2024. The distinction recognizes UPMC for meeting or exceeding critical areas of commitment by recruiting, hiring, and training veterans and military spouses.

More than 1,600 UPMC employees self-identify as veterans, with about 300 to 400 veterans applying to UPMC monthly. Our military programs and events recruit active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their family members into various roles across our workforce.

Veteran Spotlight: Sam C., Project Coordinator

After 22 years as an active-duty Marine, Sam returned home to Pittsburgh, Pa., with his wife and two children.

Seeking the right fit for his skills and experience, he was encouraged to attend UPMC’s Pathways for Veterans career fair. The decision proved life-changing for Sam and his family, leading to a career at UPMC.

“I really found a home here, not just in the veteran community and everything, but with everyone who works there," he says.
