Employee Giving in the Community

Our mission to serve and care for our communities extends beyond our medical excellence. It’s the passion of 95,000-plus employees dedicated to making life-changing impacts in the places they call home.

UPMC employees regularly participate in local events to help strengthen their neighborhoods. These opportunities include volunteering at donation drives for diapers, clothing, food, household supplies, and more essential items.

We also partner with organizations, like Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, to address food insecurity. The annual Scouting for Food campaign helps to provide food to families throughout the region. Animal Friends’ Chow Wagon also feeds hundreds of hungry pets each month.

UPMC also supports dozens of community organizations and nonprofits, including United Way, Pittsburgh Marathon, Project Bundle-Up, and various veterans’ programs.

Volunteer Spotlight: Hilltop Urban Farm

At UPMC, Life Changing Medicine means providing opportunities for our employees to support causes they’re passionate about.

Through the UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion, employees can participate in MLK Day of Service community projects. These volunteer opportunities honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s spirit of service.

In May 2024, UPMC employees volunteered at Hilltop Urban Farm in Pittsburgh, Pa. The community-centered farm sits on 107 acres of land, with 23 dedicated to farming.

Volunteers composted and mulched about 20 trees. They also cleaned a large walk-in cooler that keeps produce fresh before it is delivered to local food pantries.
