The UPMC Vocational Training Center is a community-based vocational training facility serving adults with intellectual disabilities. The program is available to people who would benefit from a structured, therapeutic setting. In many cases, individuals who participate may have a secondary mental health diagnosis.
The Vocational Training Center provides quality instruction and meaningful work. Real jobs are completed under the supervision of trained staff. Job readiness skills and behaviors are assessed, and workers receive a paycheck for work performed. By providing real work for pay, workers also gain a sense of self-esteem from their productive activity.
Supported Employment Program
The Supported Employment Program provides job coaching and help in securing and keeping competitive employment for adults who have developmental disabilities, including people who may be on the autism spectrum. The program provides an individualized assessment and staff assist in finding jobs that match the person’s interests and abilities.
The program also includes job assessment and training for transitional-age, high school students preparing to leave the school system.
