Sara Izzo

Sara Izzo was born with spina bifida.

She is a wife and has worked in the medical field for 20 years.

“My firsthand patient experience gives me a unique perspective to identify the needs of our patients while building trust,” she says.

Sara collaborated with members of the Spina Bifida Care Advisory Network to help establish the Adult Spina Bifida Peer Navigation Program at UPMC, representing multiple cultures, identities, and medical characteristics to service a population that is often overlooked.

Sara hopes to inspire others that “there are no limits, we just have to navigate a road less traveled.”

Sara recommends virtual group and one-on-one sessions for patients through UPMC’s Adult Spina Bifida Peer Navigation Program.
