In August 2016, Jackson MacTaggart sustained an injury to his C5 vertebra from an ocean diving accident that resulted in incomplete quadriplegia. But that didn’t stop him from pursuing his goal of becoming a professor.

In May 2023, Jackson graduated magna cum laude from Penn State University with degrees in Astronomy & Astrophysics and General Physics, with a minor in Mathematics. After graduation, Jackson enrolled at the University of Michigan in the Climate and Space Physics Department, pursuing a doctorate in the field of Heliophysics.

In his free time, Jackson participates in competitive adaptive rowing.
