Austin’s Playrooms project was established as a result of Nathalie and Mario Lemieux’s personal experience while caring for their infant son, Austin. The area allows parents and kids the opportunity to escape the clinical setting to be able to relax when visiting a loved on in the hospital.

As a regional trauma center that serves those who may not be from Altoona, the playroom serves as an immediate respite area for families with kids.
The All Faiths Chapel, located on the fourth floor of the Tower, is available to patients and visitors of all faiths for meditation and prayer.

UPMC Altoona offers free wireless internet access on the main hospital campus and at the Surgery Center. Patients and visitors can log on through our “Guest” network using a cell phone, tablet, laptop, game console, PDA, or MP3 player.

If you're away from your loved one or want to let someone know that you are thinking about them, call Lori’s Gifts at 814-889-2080. One of our hospital volunteers will be happy to assist you in picking out a perfect gift.
The gift shop accepts major credit cards. All phone orders will be delivered to the patient's room that same day. A portion of the proceeds from Lori’s Gifts benefits patients and employees of UPMC Altoona.
The newly renovated UPMC Altoona Donna Jean Hospitality House offers homelike and affordable accommodations for families of patients for a nominal fee. Located just a block from the hospital, the house features four bedrooms with shared use of the living room, television, bathroom, and kitchen. Free WiFi and a courtesy shuttle to the hospital also are included. To arrange a stay, contact UPMC Altoona Police at 814-889-2121.
Several area hotels offer discounted rates on overnight accommodations for UPMC Altoona patients and their loved ones. Many have special rates for families of our patients based on availability, so be sure to inquire about any possible discounts that might be offered.

Mail is delivered to rooms daily. Mail received after a patient leaves the hospital is forwarded to the home address on record. Flowers and plants are not permitted in critical care or any patient rooms designated as a “protective environment.” In all other areas of the hospital, the florist or a volunteer will deliver flowers to patient rooms.
