Welcome to the UPMC Harrisburg Emergency Medicine Residency Program!
We are a 3-year, categorical EM program located in the state capital of Pennsylvania, right on the beautiful Susquehanna Riverfront. We serve a very diverse, underserved population with a curriculum designed to serve and reflect our community needs. We are an urban inner-city hospital with a large suburban and rural EMS catchment. From 3 years of critical care and heavy pediatric exposure to rotations in street medicine and addiction medicine, you will truly learn the breadth and depth of emergency medicine.
As a community academic hospital, we pride ourselves on early resident autonomy, an abundance of procedures, and hands on teaching. Our faculty are experienced clinicians with diverse training backgrounds, and subspecialty training in EMS, Toxicology, Ultrasound, Addiction Medicine, Critical Care, Urgent Care, Observation Medicine and more.
We believe education should be personalized and tailored to each learner. Didactic education should be hands on, interactive, and case based. Electives and selectives should be flexible. Mentorship should be plentiful. We know residency is hard and we believe our residents should feel supported at every step.
We aim to prepare our learners for wherever their career may take them, whether that is a small rural emergency department or a fellowship at a large center, academics or community. The more you are exposed to during training the better prepared you will be!
Highlights of our program include:
- Varied patient populations and training environments
- UPMC Harrisburg Hospital: Primary training site with an urban setting
- UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital: Community training site in suburban Harrisburg
- Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center: Tertiary pediatric experiences
- R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center: Dedicated rotation at world-renowned trauma center
- Diverse and experienced clinical faculty with years of hands-on clinical care
- Varied didactics that incorporate small group learning and simulation
- Strong Institutional support for Graduate Medical Education
We are looking for residents who are passionate about emergency medicine and who are interested in being a part of a close-knit EM program with personalized education while serving our community.
Thanks for your interest in our program. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Sincerely,
Amy Wyatt, DO, FACEP
