The entire LDRs staff, from physicians to midwives to nurses to patient care technicians, take a personalized approach to your care, making every effort to create the birthing experience you've envisioned.

Everything needed for a safe, comfortable labor experience — fetal monitoring, anesthesia equipment, and a bed that pulls apart for delivery — is already in the room, integrated into the surroundings to preserve the comfort and intimacy of the environment.

As labor progresses, you can take advantage of some of the innovative birthing options available, such as hydrotherapy in showers with mobile shower heads, wireless fetal monitoring, and birthing balls. Pain relief options, should you choose to use them, are available through our 24-hour anesthesia services.

After delivery, you and your baby can enjoy the golden hour of skin-to-skin and first feeding. After the immediate recovery period, you and your newest addition will transfer to the Mother-Baby unit for the rest of your hospital stay.

The Birth Circle Doulas of Magee

Our Birth Circle Doulas help women who plan to deliver at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in every stage of pregnancy. A Birth Circle Doula of Magee:

• Helps you decide your birth preferences and make a birth plan.
• Shares their knowledge and compassion with the goal of creating a safe and nurturing birthing space.
• Stays by your side during childbirth to offer support.
• Provides childbirth and baby care education.
• Identifies and provides support for mental health issues.
• Offers postpartum follow-up breastfeeding support.
