Patient Meals

We serve patient meals at UPMC Passavant 7 days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner delivery times will vary on each patient care unit.

UPMC Passavant–McCandless At Your Request patient meals

At Your Request is a new concept in patient meal services. It gives our patients more flexibility, allowing them to order meals when they feel like eating.

To place your meal order, open the At Your Request menu and then dial 123 to call in your order. We will deliver your tray within 45 minutes. 

You may order up to 3 At Your Request meals in advance.

Family members can also take the At Your Request menu home and place orders for you by dialing the number on the menu.

UPMC Passavant–Cranberry personal service dining

Personal service dining provides each patient with a host or hostess who will:

  • Personally describe the menu choices.
  • Take your order.
  • Deliver your meals right to your bedside.

Phone and TV

UPMC Passavant provides free phone and TV services in each patient room.

Directions on how to use your phone are in your room.

Local calls to the 412 or 724 area codes are free of charge. Consider placing a collect call or using a prepaid phone card for long distance calls.

For our hearing-impaired patients, a TTY phone and other hearing assistance devices are available. Please inform your nurse or the unit director should you require these devices.

Special Needs and Communications Assistance

To meet the needs of patients and visitors who have impaired hearing or other special communications needs, UPMC Passavant offers:

  • Sign language interpreters
  • Amplified phone receivers and portable telecommunications devices for the deaf (TDD)
  • Closed-captioned television
  • Printed education materials

To obtain a TDD or any other communications aids, ask the nursing staff on your patient care unit.

Patient Valuables

We strongly suggest patients leave valuables at home or give them to a family member.

If this is not possible, please tell your nurse that you want to secure your items until you or your family can retrieve them.

UPMC Passavant cannot be responsible for any lost or stolen items during your stay.

Visitation

Visitors can enter both UPMC Passavant hospitals 24 hours a day through the main entrances.

Infection Precaution

To protect the health of all patients, the staff at UPMC Passavant wear gloves, masks, and other protective clothing for many aspects of your care.

These routine safety measures help shield patients and health care staff against many types of germs and infections.

Germs and infection control at UPMC Passavant

UPMC Passavant's Infection Control Program aims to prevent the spread of germs.

Germs and infections can travel from:

  • Patient to patient
  • Patient to staff and visitors
  • Staff to patients and visitors

If your family or friends are feeling ill, please ask them to refrain from coming to the hospital to visit you.

Condition Help

UPMC created Condition Help to protect the safety of our patients in the hospital.

It's a resource for UPMC Passavant patients or family members to call:

  • In an emergency.
  • When a patient can't get the attention of the health care team.
  • With a concern about a noticeable change in a patient’s medical condition that the health care team is not recognizing.
  • About a breakdown in how the team is giving care or confusion over what care a patient needs.

To access Condition Help, dial 111 from any UPMC Passavant hospital phone. Calling Condition Help will get an immediate response from staff members to the patient’s bedside.

Spiritual Care at UPMC Passavant–McCandless

At UPMC Passavant–McCandless, we have a chapel and healing garden.

The chapel is on the first floor of the main building near Medical Building S and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The healing garden is located near the chapel. 

Chaplains are also available at UPMC Passavant–McCandless. To arrange a visit or ask about religious services, call 412-748-6700.

Palliative Care

Palliative care services are available at Passavant for patients and families facing serious illness to promote quality of life, control pain and symptoms, provide psychosocial and spiritual supports.

The service emphasizes:

  • Relief from pain and other distressing symptoms.
  • Integration of physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of patient care.
  • Development of a support system to help patients live as actively as possible.
  • Assisting the family to cope during the patient's illness and in bereavement.

Concierge Services at UPMC Passavant

The concierge service at UPMC Passavant can help you or your family members with:

  • Listings of local restaurants, hotels, and shopping
  • Church service schedules
  • Driving directions and transportation information
  • Dry cleaning needs
  • Notary services

To contact the UPMC Passavant–McCandless concierge service, located in the hospital’s Main Lobby, call 412-748-5419:

  • Monday through Friday between 6:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Saturday between 7 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
  • Sunday between 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

To reach the UPMC Passavant–Cranberry concierge service, dial 724-772-5488.

Operating hours are:

  • Monday through Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

After hours, contact any UPMC Passavant staff member for urgent, non-medical needs, such as lodging or meals.

Courtesy page lets you know when to return to the patient care area for a status report, allowing you to move about the hospital. We offer courtesy page services in many departments at UPMC Passavant–McCandless.
