Robotic Surgery
UPMC Jameson offers minimally invasive robotic surgery with the da Vinci® System. The da Vinci robot translates a surgeon’s hand movements into smaller, more precise movements.
During the procedure, the surgeon:
- Inserts tiny surgical tools through a small cut.
- Uses a high-powered camera to move the robot's arms.
- Views the movements through a magnified 3D high-def screen.
Since surgeons only need to make small cuts, the benefits of robotic surgery may include less pain and scarring.
Robotic general and urologic surgery procedures available at UPMC Jameson include:
- Cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
- Colon resection
- Cystectomy (bladder removal)
- Gastric bypass
- Gastric sleeve
- Hernia surgery (inguinal, umbilical, ventral, and incisional)
- Hysterectomy
- Nephrectomy (kidney removal)
- Prostatectomy (prostate removal)
Same-Day Surgery Unit
As less invasive surgical techniques advance, the number of outpatient surgeries continues to grow.
The same-day surgery staff includes highly skilled, specialty-trained critical care nurses and aides. They work closely with your surgeon and anesthesia team.
We perform all same-day surgeries in the OR at UPMC Jameson.
Services we provide include:
- Pre-and post-op care for invasive medical imaging procedures.
- Pre-and post-op care for heart catheterizations and angioplasties.
- Blood transfusions and IV infusions.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy is used to perform studies and diagnose gastrointestinal disorders by looking inside the body with a scope. The general surgeons at UPMC Jameson offer upper and lower GI endoscopies to help diagnose:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Ulcers
- Abnormal growths
- Cancer and precancerous conditions
- Bowel obstruction
- Hiatal hernia
Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Right after surgery, we'll move you to the PACU and check on you often.
All PACU staff members have training in:
- Critical care nursing
- Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS)
- Pediatric advanced life support (PALS)
Where you'll go after the PACU
- For outpatient surgery: you'll return to the same-day surgery unit before going home.
- For inpatient surgery, or same-day-surgery patients who need to stay in the hospital: we'll take you to your room.
