Curriculum

The rotation schedule is divided into 2 month blocks where the Hand Fellows will spend time with each of the 3 Hand Surgery faculty members twice during the year. A typical week on each service includes 2.5 days in the clinic, 2 days in the OR, and a half day of research.

Each fellow is required to complete a clinical or basic science project over the course of their training. UPMC Hamot has a full time Director of Medical Research Operations that assists faculty and trainees with research opportunities and research techniques. The program also has avenues to collaborate with local universities around the community on these projects.

Fellows will take responsibility for organizing and supervising the teaching service in conjunction with the faculty and provide residents and medical students with a productive, interactive educational experience.

There is one didactic lecture per week and one journal club per month. M&M discussions occur during the monthly clinic meeting alongside Hand Therapists from CHT.
