Educational Curriculum and Research

Residents are provided with a healthy stipend to accommodate educational needs. First-year residents are provided with MedStudy—an internal medicine board review—at the beginning of their training. We offer an array of programs to appeal to every learning style.

We utilize the following programs:

  • Yale ambulatory medicine curriculum
  • MKSAP Board Review

Daily didactic programs include:

  • Morning report
  • Noon lectures

Weekly programs include:

  • Board review
  • Internal medicine/general surgery grand rounds

Monthly programs include:

  • Journal club
  • Morbidity and mortality conference
  • Renal Grand Rounds

We use a systems based approach to education – each month focuses on topics relevant to that discipline.

Physicians are encouraged to pursue academic and research interests. Residents participate in national and local conferences and are given time off and stipends for such endeavors.

Every year we participate in UPMC Medical Education Day. East resident is responsible for writing up a case study or developing a research project to present at this lively educational forum. Available to residents are statisticians, research specialists and faculty who can help you develop your own individualized project and make it a reality.
