In addition to diagnosing and treating conditions of the ear, the UPMC Center for Audiology and Hearing Aids also offers a number of assistive hearing devices and amplification solutions.
The center offers a comprehensive program for the evaluation and fitting of state-of-the-art amplification devices, including all levels of hearing aid technology. Our goal is to match the technology to your needs.
We work with all the major manufacturers of hearing devices to provide options for even the most complex hearing losses.
The bone anchored hearing aid is a special device for those with a medical condition that may prevent them from wearing standard hearing aid technology.
In addition to hearing aids, audiologists fit many other devices to assist with hearing on the telephone, as well as alerting and signaling devices. We have a demonstration center where patients can try out the devices. The state of Pennsylvania offers free amplified telephones that also provide captioning. To receive these phones, you need to be seen by an audiologist for a hearing test to verify your hearing loss. We are happy to assist you in accessing this program.
The center has batteries available for different hearing aids and assistive listening devices. In addition, we offer a variety of solutions for moisture and retention that will assist you in making the best use of your devices.
We can also make many repairs in our hearing aid laboratory. If we can't fix the aid in our lab and need to send it away for repair, we have loaner hearing aids available for use.
UPMC's Center for Audiology and Hearing Aids has a billing specialist on-site who will assist in determining your insurance coverage.
Several programs are available to help patients manage payments for hearing aids that insurance rarely covers. In addition, we work with several philanthropic organizations that provide hearing aids at reduced cost or free of charge. In the state of Pennsylvania, children under the age of 21 receive hearing health care including hearing aids at no cost (these children are seen at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh).
