The UPMC Center for Audiology and Hearing Aids in Pittsburgh performs routine and specialized hearing care evaluations and provides treatment for permanent hearing loss. Our goal is to provide evidence-based care related to your hearing loss and unique communication challenges.

Hearing Assessments and Diagnostic Testing

The Center for Audiology and Hearing Aid Services offers both basic hearing assessments and free telephone hearing screenings.

To diagnose your condition, we offer special hearing tests including:

• Brainstem evoked response testing (BSER)
• Distortion product otoacoustic emission testing (DPOAE)
• Imittance testing of tympanometry and acoustic reflexes
• Electrocochleography
• Facial electromyography

Our Specialty Hearing Programs and Custom Earmolds

The center also has three specialized programs for:

• Treatment of bothersome tinnitus and decreased sound tolerance — Tinnitus Retraining Therapy evaluates and treats people suffering from noise in their ears or head (tinnitus) and/or negative reactions to sounds in their environment (decreased sound tolerance).
• Musicians' hearing — cares for the auditory needs of musicians.
• Cochlear implants — helps those who cannot use hearing aids.

In addition, we can create custom earmolds including:

• Musicians' earplugs
• Swim plugs
• In-ear monitors
• Earplugs to block noise

The UPMC Audiology and Hearing Aid Center also provides hearing effectiveness and safety services for businesses that must meet U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) requirements.
