Rather than removing tiny cells from the breast, a stereotactic biopsy involves removing a portion of the suspicious area.

Board-certified radiologists at Magee-Womens Imaging will use mammography or ultrasound to examine the breast tissue, helping them pinpoint what needs removed during the biopsy procedure.

What to Expect During Your Stereotactic Breast Biopsy

During the procedure, your radiologist will:

• Ask you either to lie down on your stomach or sit, depending on the equipment being used
• Make a tiny incision in your breast and insert a special probe
• Use the probe to remove several core samples of breast tissue from the suspicious area
• Cover the area with a bandage

Following a stereotactic biopsy, our team of specialists will examine the breast tissue samples and work with your doctor to make an accurate diagnosis.
