Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an imaging technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body.
A breast MRI is a painless, low-risk exam that can be used to:
- evaluate an abnormality or lump
- plan treatments and your body’s response to them
- assess silicone implant integrity
- screen for cancer
Physicians typically use MRI in addition to other imaging techniques, including mammography and ultrasound, to allow for a clearer image of the breast. Your physician will discuss with you if additional imaging is needed.
