Center for Community Hospitalist Medicine

UPMC's Center for Community Hospitalist Medicine offers job opportunities and supports hospitalist teams in nine sites.

We ensure up-to-date training to help our teams provide the highest standards of care.

What Is a Hospitalist?

A hospitalist is a doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant who:

  • Takes charge of your care while you're in the hospital.
  • Makes sure you get needed tests and treatments.
  • Answers your questions and addresses any concerns you may have.

As health care becomes more complex, hospitalists serve a growing need.

They see the big picture and the details of a person's care — helping to make sure no one misses anything.

Hospitalists stay in close touch with your care team in the hospital and community.

This helps them know your health better. It also helps them make sure you get the follow-up care you need after your hospital stay.
