Interpreter Services offers free interpretation and translation for you, your family, and your care team.
These services include in-person, video, and telephone interpreters who support all of UPMC.
UPMC interpreters must stick to professional standards. For instance, they must:
- Interpret what each person says.
- Protect the right to self-determination.
- Ensure confidentiality and quality care.
In Person at the Hospital/Clinic
Sign and spoken language interpreters can attend your clinic visits. They're also on hand during hospital stays with advance notice.
Video conference
Video interpretation services are available on computers or iPads. These connect people in our care to sign and spoken language interpreters. You can find them in our inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth settings.
Telephone
Telephone interpreters for spoken languages are in our clinics 24/7.
In-person interpreters
Interpreters support quality and safety. They do this by helping you and your doctor communicate easier.
Find Care in Your Language
UPMC also has many staff members who speak a language other than English.
To find a provider who speaks a language other than English, select the language under the "Languages Spoken" section.
"I Speak" Cards
We have "I Speak" cards for you or your loved one to bring to your next health visit. This will help your care team know your language needs.
Your Rights
All people have a right to these services.
UPMC policy prohibits discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, limited English proficiency ancestry, national origin, age, gender, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital, familial, disability status or status as a covered veteran or any other legally protected status.
