"I was a nurse on the Mother/Baby Unit at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital until just a few months before my delivery. While I was there, I got know and really trust everyone — from the nurses and staff to the doctors. When I learned I was pregnant, there was no question in my mind: my baby would be born at UPMC Magee!
I was in labor for 17 hours. The care team was there for me every minute of that time. It ended up being a vaginal delivery with an epidural (contractions can be surprisingly tough!). Dr. Anne Shaheen at Ob-Gyn Associates of Pittsburgh was there for my delivery, and she was an amazing coach. Even my husband was impressed: ‘Kudos to the team!’ he said.
I took advantage of Magee’s nursery at night. My nursing friends took care of Caralyn while I had the chance to catch up on sleep and heal. By the time I got home, I was fresh and ready to care for her!
Caralyn was born in August 2021 and she now does belly crawls and sits up on her own! I couldn’t be more in love. And I’ll always be grateful to everyone at Magee who helped bring her into the world.” – Ashley
