After a mild heart attack and stroke, George was unable to live his life like he used to because it was hard for him to move around. It was recommended that he begin outpatient physical therapy with UPMC Rehabilitation Institute and soon after, became a patient at our Harborcreek location in Erie.
George was worried he wouldn’t be able to keep up with his family or be productive after his heart attack. He realized he needed help to be able to engage with his family again.
George worked with occupational therapist, Stephanie Burns, who helped enhance his hand movements. He is now able to fish and cook with his wife. He was also treated by neurological therapist, Amanda Dailey, who has successfully increased his walking stability. Speech therapist, Jennifer Bukowski helped his speech so much, he is now able to talk to his friends on the phone again.
“The team stimulated and motivated me,” George said. “The therapists who treated me were very encouraging, and I am making improvements. I would recommend UPMC to anyone.”
George is now on his way to living a healthier life. He now wants to join the local YMCA to lose weight and may even start playing the piano again!
“Rehabilitation at UPMC has rejuvenated my soul,” George said.
