Heart Disease Stem Cell Research at the McGowan Institute

Catalin Toma, MD, is leading a phase II multicenter clinical trial. The study will assess the safety of AMI MultiStem® in people after a recent heart attack.

AMI MultiStem vial is a cell therapy product made from adult stem cells found in bone marrow. Researchers take the stem cells from a non-related donor and expand them ex-vivo.

Trial subjects will receive MultiStem via catheter into the outer layer of the target vein after successful angioplasty.
