The Emergency Departments at UPMC Passavant provide complete 24/7 emergency care to people throughout Pittsburgh’s northern suburbs. At UPMC Passavant–McCandless and UPMC Passavant–Cranberry, our doctors consistently provide patients with the best possible emergency care — no matter the time of day, or the complexity of illness or injury.
COVID-19 Tests
If you think you’ve been exposed to COVID-19 and have only mild symptoms – and you do not have difficulty breathing – you can schedule a COVID-19 test at a designated test location. The Emergency Department is NOT the place to get a COVID-19 test UNLESS you are experiencing breathing problems or other severe symptoms.
Going to an Emergency Department with mild or no symptoms may create a long wait time for you to be seen and COVID-19 test results do not come back more quickly – they still will take one, two, or more days.
Get more information or find a testing location near you.
For a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. For immediate help with a mental health crisis, call 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Stroke Telemedicine
Stroke telemedicine uses high-tech videoconferencing to link experts at the UPMC Stroke Institute to the Emergency Department physicians at the new, state-of-the-art Emergency Departments at UPMC Passavant–McCandless and UPMC Passavant–Cranberry, allowing physicians to assess possible stroke patients, make recommendations, and give timely treatment.
Chest Pain Expertise
The Cardiac Cath Team at the Emergency Department at UPMC Passavant–McCandless has a collaborative goal with the UPMC Cardiology Department to expedite the care of our patients with heart attacks. Upon diagnosing a heart attack from an abnormal EKG, our emergency physicians will activate the cardiac cath team. This process can occur prior to the patient arriving to the ER if an abnormal EKG is transmitted while EMS is en route.
Our cath team is committed to arriving to the hospital within 30 minutes to begin acute interventions, such as balloon angioplasty and stent placement.
Fast Track
UPMC Passavant–Cranberry has the ability to care for a wide array of medical ailments. Some of these conditions may be more complex than others. The Fast Track service is dedicated to caring for less complex or minor injuries and illnesses. Patients that are triaged to Fast Track are evaluated by a certified nurse practitioner or physician assistant. These providers work closely with highly trained emergency medicine physicians to provide high-quality and expedited care.
Pediatric Emergency Care
