Physician-researchers at the Magee-Womens Gynecologic Cancer Program and the Hillman Cancer Center are pioneering efforts to develop novel strategies for diagnosing, treating, and preventing cancers of the cervix, ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina, and vulva, helping to establish more personalized treatments, and improve early detection methods for these cancers.
During your testing and treatment, you may be asked to participate in a clinical trial. Part of our mission is the development of new treatments for cancer, and your participation can help us to help others now and in the future.
You can participate in the latest clinical trials for the prevention and treatment of gynecologic cancers through the Magee-Womens Research Institute and the Gynecologic Disease Site at UPCI.
Current research focus for the Gynecologic Cancer Program includes:
- Sentinel node mapping in the management of cervical and uterine cancers
- Intraperitoneal biological therapies and the use of combined positron emission tomography/computerized tomography (PET-CT) imaging for the management of ovarian cancer
- Prevention strategies, including cervical cancer vaccines and the development of new ovarian cancer biomarkers
The Jennie K. Scaife Ovarian Cancer Center of Excellence supports innovative, translational ovarian cancer research projects aimed at improved early detection, diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of ovarian cancer.
