Operation Walk Pittsburgh
Operation Walk Pittsburgh provides free hip and knee replacements for people that don't have access to life-improving care for arthritis.
Headed by Tony DiGioia, MD, we bring our expert bone and joint care to developing countries and across the U.S.
Each mission trip involves a team of surgeons, nurses, and others who provide free joint replacements and bone and joint health education.
We work alongside local health care teams to share knowledge and expertise and promote an exchange of culture and medicine.
Many volunteers for each Operation Walk Pittsburgh mission are UPMC staff.

Bone and Joint Health Series
Now for both community members and providers, we've worked with local medical partners on more than a dozen learning events.
These health workshops address cutting-edge topics on:
- Bone and joint health.
- Common bone and joint ailments such as arthritis.
- Advancements in total joint replacement (TJR) surgeries and treatment options.
All Bone and Joint Health Series events are free to attend and occur a few times a year.
Bone and Joint Center at UPMC Magee Patient Reunions
Every other year, we invite former Bone and Joint Center patients to gather for an afternoon of fun, games, and food.
Held at local Pittsburgh venues like Heinz Field and the Pittsburgh Zoo, the event:
- Creates community among attendees who have all had recent TJR surgery.
- Gives the center's staff the chance to reconnect with our patients and their families.
