The Bone and Joint Center at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital offers pain management through injections and joint replacement surgery.
Pain Management
You can get injections of medications to help relieve your knee or hip pain at your very first visit to the Bone and Joint Center at Magee, and can continue to get them, within certain limits, while you and your doctor decide about surgery.
When injections are helping control the pain for less than three months, and your quality of life is affected, then you may be a candidate for joint replacement surgery. In some cases, even if you are experiencing these symptoms, but are overweight or have significant medical problems, you may not be able to undergo surgery.
Joint Replacement Surgery
If, during an office visit, you decide to have knee or hip replacement surgery, we will schedule it before you leave.
You can also schedule your preoperative testing and education session, which conveniently take place on the same day and at the same location, about three weeks prior to surgery.
You will need to identify a family member or friend to serve as your coach through your journey to wellness. Your coach attends the preoperative visit and comes to the hospital on the day of your surgery.
