The Bone and Joint Center at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital treats arthritis and hip, knee, and back pain.
Arthritis
Your body’s cartilage acts as a cushion for the weight-bearing surfaces of the joints. When arthritis sets in, the cartilage between the joints begins to wear over time, and eventually, the bone wears down too, causing inflammation and pain.
If you are experiencing significant knee and hip pain caused by arthritis, it may be time for an evaluation of your condition by the Bone and Joint Center at UPMC Magee.
A Wellness Approach
For non-operative patients, our Center for Bone and Joint Health offers personalized plans to support your overall wellness.
For surgical candidates, the Bone and Joint Center at Magee takes a wellness approach to surgery and recovery.
Since most surgical candidates are healthy individuals whose lives can be greatly improved through reconstructive surgery, they need not be treated as if they are sick or ill.
At the Bone and Joint Center, the journey to wellness begins with your own condition and needs, not with the assumption that you will undergo surgery. We tailor each treatment to your pain tolerance and activity needs.
Before your first visit, you will be asked many thoughtful questions about your pain and lifestyle and past orthopaedic history. Your answers, along with information sheets that you complete prior to your visit, help determine whether you have a knee or a hip problem.
X-rays will likely be taken, you will be evaluated, and then recommendations will be made based on those findings.
