Our Nursing Education staff leads new nurses through a yearlong Nursing Residency Program. Once again, U.S. News & World Report recognized Magee as a High Performing Hospital for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy). This is the highest award a hospital can earn for Maternity Care from U.S. News.
To be recognized among the Best Hospitals for Maternity, hospitals had to excel on multiple quality metrics that matter to expectant families, including C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates, birthing-friendly practices and transparency on racial/ethnic disparities, among other measures.
Additionally, seven other hospitals in the UPMC Magee-Womens network were recognized as High Performing in Maternity Care. This makes UPMC Magee-Womens the state’s largest network of top-rated maternity care.
As part of the 2024-25 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” rankings, UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital ranked as #24 in the nation for excellence in obstetrics and gynecology.

Our hospital committee sends nominees to Pitt's oversight committee for a program-level award for nurses that work in a range of roles, including:
The DAISY (diseases attacking the immune system) Foundation® honors the skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide each day.
At Magee, we take part in the DAISY Award program to honor and thank our nurses for their outstanding care. There's also a DAISY Team Award.
The team award goes to those on a nurse-led team. It honors two or more people who go above and beyond to learn and meet patient and family needs.
Each quarter of the year, our Magee selection committee reviews DAISY award nominees from patients, family members, and staff. Nurses can be nominated through an online form, or nomination cards can be filled out at Magee near the elevators.
We then present the award to one or more nurses for their excellence in patient care.
This quarterly award celebrates the dedication, commitment, and compassion of patient care support staff each day.
