Visiting Residents

If you are interested in scheduling a rotation at UPMC Hamot, please contact Michelle Ahl at ahlml@upmc.edu. The request will be reviewed, acceptance of the rotation will be confirmed by the attending physician, and then you or your program will be contacted regarding the status. Please be aware that requests should be submitted at least four months prior to the requested rotation start date. Please make note at this time whether or not you have your PA Training License. Your First Rotation is Approved. What’s Next?

No later than 90 days before the rotation begins, the visiting resident must upload or complete the following in UPMC’s residency management system; MedHub:

• Curriculum vitae
• Copy of training license and NPI confirmation
• Copy of USMLE or COMLEX scores (1, 2, and 3, if available) (If a podiatry resident; then the Podiatry Board scores are acceptable in this place)
• Copy of social security card
• Copy of driver’s license
• ECFMG Certificate, if applicable (if not, request it to be waived)
• Photo
• Visiting Resident Information Form
• HIPPA Module
• Work Hours Module
• Copy of COVID-19 Vaccination (or exemption from home institution)
• Clearances through the State of Pennsylvania (Acts 33, 34, and 73)

No later than 30 days before the rotation begins, the visiting resident must also complete and submit the following to Michelle Ahl:

• IMS Form
• Current Certificate of Liability
• Parking Form
• Confirmation (i.e. screenshots) of successful completion of Cerner training modules
• Module One: Managing Patient Lists
• Module Two: The Newly Admitted Patient
• Module Three: Documentation
• Module Four: Daily Patient Management
• Module Five: Safe Discharge and Transition of Care
• COVID-19 Training
• WLA - View a course (wolfflearningacademy.com)
• You are required to set up an account and password.
• When completing registration, choose any class date. You do not need to wait for your class date to begin the training.
• Send certificate of completion to the program coordinator. Note: It may take up to 24 hours for the certificate to appear after you’ve done the modules
• Visiting Resident UPMC Hamot Orientation
• Acknowledgement of Orientation Form
• Visiting Resident Confidentiality Agreement Exhibit B

Parking

Prior to receiving a parking permit, convenient parking is available at the resident's own expense in the public parking garage at Third and State streets (entrance on Third Street). As an alternative, the Intermodal Center has free parking and is located at the foot of Holland Street, off the Bayfront Parkway and is a short walk to UPMC Hamot.

Coming Back for Another Rotation?

No later than 30 days before the rotation begins, the visiting resident must also complete and submit the following to Michelle Ahl or have it uploaded into MedHub as needed:

• Please check to be sure we always have an up-to-date PA Training License in MedHub
• Please check to be sure that your drivers license is up to date in MedHub
• Please check to be sure that your Act 33 PA Child Abuse History Clearance, Act 34 PA State Police/Criminal Record Check Clearance, & Act 73 PA FBI Finger Print Record Check is up to date in MedHub
