Giving Back to Our Community
Charitable giving, sponsorships, and community benefit contributions
UPMC Altoona has long been committed to supporting the communities we serve. Last year alone, UPMC Altoona contributed $41.2 million in community benefits, including charity care for the underserved, educational programs, and health and wellness programs/services. Direct contributions were made to the city of Altoona, Blair County, local schools, and community organizations.
Local giving spotlight
During the recent 2022 holiday season, UPMC Altoona and the UPMC Altoona Foundation continued our financial support of numerous community-fostering events and charitable programs that made the season brighter for local children and seniors.
Some of the organizations we supported this season:
- Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries.
- Altoona Symphony Orchestra.
- American Rescue Workers.
- Family Services - Drive By Giving.
- Hollidaysburg Winterfest.
- Hollidaysburg YMCA Red Campaign.
- Hollidaysburg Veterans' Christmas Fund.
- Kids for Christmas.
- Lights on the Lake.
- Mario Lemieux Foundation.
- Northern Blair Kiwanis.
- Stuff the Ambulance Toy Drive.
Additionally, UPMC Altoona staff, led by the Employee Experience Team, selected charities to support through a 'Giving Tuesdays' donation drive. In December, cash, gift cards, food items, toiletries, warm clothing, and other supplies were collected for the Sweat for Vets Foundation, the Tiger Pack Program, Skills of Central PA, and the Healing Patch Program. Other hospital departments collected toys, clothing, and gift card donations for children in need at Juniata Gap Elementary and for the Adopt-a-Family program through Catholic Charities.
