Admission Requirements for RN Nursing Program at UPMC Schools of Nursing

High School Requirements

  • High school graduate or satisfactory completion of GED.
    • High school seniors can submit a current transcript.
  • Required high school courses:
    • 4 English courses.
    • 4 Social Studies courses.
    • 2 Math courses.
      • 1 must be Algebra with a grade of C or better.
    • 2 Science courses with laboratory, or equivalent with a of C or better
      • 1 must be biology.
  • Official high school transcripts must be provided, and must include the month, date, and year or graduation.
  • GED Certificate including test scores must be submitted.
  • If the applicant graduated from a foreign high school, they must be deemed equivalent to a US High School Diploma. Transcript evaluation must be completed through World Education Service (WES) or Education Credential Evaluators (ECE) for equivalencies prior to being offered admission.

*All high school requirements must be completed to be considered for admission.

TEAS Test Requirements

Students applying to UPMC Schools of Nursing are required to submit a qualifying TEAS (PDF) score of 58.7% or higher as part of the application process.

  • UPMC employees with minimum of 6 months employment, individuals with bachelor’s degrees, or individuals with a current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, and Maryland are exempted from taking the TEAS exam.
    • Applicants who are UPMC employees:
      • Human Resources will verify employment status.
      • Must be employed for a period of 6 months to be eligible for exemption.
    • Applicants who have a bachelor’s degree:
      • Must provide official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended; transcript must include the date of degree conferment.
