Admission Requirements for LPN to RN Advanced Track Program at UPMC Schools of Nursing

  • High school graduate or satisfactory completion of GED.
    • High school seniors can submit a current transcript.
  • Required high school courses:
    • 4 English courses.
    • 4 Social Studies courses.
    • 2 Math courses.
      • 1 must be Algebra with a grade of C or better.
    • 2 Science courses with laboratory, or equivalent with a grade of C or better.
      • 1 must be Biology.
    • Official high school transcripts must be provided.

*All high school requirements must be completed to be considered for admission.

Other Requirements

  • Copy of current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, and/or Maryland.
  • Official transcripts from Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program and all post-secondary educational programs must be provided.
    • LPNs must have a GPA of 2.9 or higher OR
    • TEAS test with score of 58.7 (proficient) and successful completion of a 4 credit college Anatomy & Physiology 1 course with lab with a grade of C or better OR
    • Successful completion of a 4 credit college Anatomy & Physiology 1 with lab and a 4 credit college Anatomy & Physiology 2 course with lab with a grade of C or better.
  • Following satisfactorily meeting all of the above listed admission requirements and completion of the online application, LPNs will be contacted to complete the following pre-admission testing requirements with required scores: (Registrar will assist you)*
    • Achievement of Level 2 or higher on ATI Content Mastery Series RN Fundamentals Proctored Assessment.
    • Achievement of scores of 80% or higher on ATI Fundamentals and Medical Surgical Proctored Dosage Calculation Assessments.
    • *LPN students must successfully complete these assessments to be eligible for exemption from the first semester foundational nursing courses.
