UPMC in central Pa. is committed to providing the best life saving and evidence-based care to patients who come to the hospital with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI or heart attack).
Our program includes a cardiac quality Department which includes voluntary participation in multiple registries to benchmark and publicly report our performance, so that our patients can be assured they are receiving the highest quality of care. Physicians, nurses and other professionals participate in meetings, like our chest pain committee, to continuously review our patients outcomes.
Our goal is to perform percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) within 90 minutes for patients with an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), a specific type of heart attack.
For patients with Non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), the goal is to ensure that appropriate medications and care are provided in a timely manner.
