Pulmonary and Respiratory Conditions We Treat
Our pulmonary and respiratory experts diagnose and treat a broad range of common and rare lung conditions, such as:
- Allergies - Allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to foreign substances (allergens) that aren't actually dangerous to the body. Common allergens include dust and pollen.
- Asthma - Asthma is a lung disease that causes the airway to become inflamed and narrowed. It can cause shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness.
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a serious lung disease. It most often occurs in smokers. COPD is progressive, meaning it gets worse over time.
- Cystic fibrosis - Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes glands in the body to make abnormally thick, sticky mucus. This can lead to blockages, infections, and organ damage.
- Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis - Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic lung disease that causes scarring of the lungs. This makes it difficult for oxygen to reach the bloodstream, making it hard to breathe. IPF worsens over time and has no known cure.
- Interstitial lung disease
- Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders - Sleep apnea is a disorder that causes your breathing to stop and start repeatedly while asleep. It can disrupt your sleep and leave you fatigued during the day. Left untreated, it can lead to serious health issues.
- Vocal cord dysfunction - Vocal cord dysfunction (VCD) is a condition where the vocal cords spontaneously close and cut off air supply.
