Did you know that every two seconds someone in the U.S. is in need of blood? Volunteer blood donations are vital to saving lives and just one donation can save up to three lives. Blood is critical for surgeries, cancer patients, patients with chronic illness and patients suffering from traumatic injury.
Donating blood at UPMC in Central Pa. is a quick, safe and easy way to help save lives.
Each day, patients at Central Pennsylvania hospitals use between 275 and 300 units of blood and blood products. One pint of your life-saving blood can help to heal wounds, fight infections or replenish the blood supply of another person in your community.
Eligibility
To be eligible to donate blood, you must:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Weigh more than 110 pounds
- Be in good health
