At UPMC in Central Pa. we perform several types of Fluoroscopy exams.
The most common are Barium X-ray studies, which are performed to look at the gastro-intestinal tract. Examples of these would include Barium Swallows, Upper Gastrointestinal tract (UGI) and Barium Enemas. Another fluoroscopy exam frequently performed is the arthrogram (shoulder, wrist, hip, knee, etc.). These studies are performed to look at the joints of the body, usually in conjunction with MRI and CT. All of these fluoroscopy studies can be performed on an outpatient basis, some with very limited or no patient prep involved.
