Adult Inpatient Unit
Our Inpatient Unit is located on the 5th Floor of UPMC Williamsport Divine Providence Campus. It is a short-term, intensive treatment program for adults 18 and older. Services are provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in a safe, monitored and comfortable atmosphere.
Behavioral health conditions we treat include:
- Anxiety
- Bipolar disorder
- Depression
- Mood disorders
- PTSD
An individual may be admitted to the unit once he or she receives a medical evaluation by a doctor, and it is determined that criteria have been met for acute psychiatric care. Patients are frequently admitted from an emergency department, but may be referred by their family doctor, outpatient psychiatrist or therapist. A psychiatrist provides final approval for admission. Within the first 24 hours of admission, patients receive a psychiatric evaluation, a physical examination and a comprehensive nursing assessment. Further testing is provided when deemed necessary.
Patients are encouraged to participate in the multidisciplinary therapeutic program, consisting of:
- Patient and family-friendly environment
- Specialization in adult and geriatric services
- Daily assessments and treatments provided by a psychiatrist
- Occupational, recreational and physical therapies
- Pastoral support
- Individualized nutrition and diabetes counseling
- 24/7 care provided by specialty-registered nurses
- Electroconvulsive therapy
- Pet therapy
