Inpatient and outpatient occupational therapy at UPMC St. Margaret are part of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute. We help you improve your level of functioning as much as possible in your activities of daily living (ADLs), which can include:

  • Eating.
  • Bathing.
  • Dressing.
  • Writing.
  • Cooking.
  • Driving.

Work and leisure activities may also be addressed.

Conditions We Treat

Occupational therapists serve a wide age range. Impairments treated include:

  • Orthopaedic injuries.
  • Work-related injuries.
  • Arthritis.
  • Effects of aging.
  • Recovering from an injury such as a stroke or automobile accident.

Rehabilitation

Based on your individualized occupational therapy plan, rehabilitation may include:

  • Training in ways to perform daily tasks more effectively and safely.
  • Therapeutic exercise or activities.
  • Hand therapy.
  • Education.

Your Treatment

During your initial visit, a registered and licensed occupational therapist will evaluate your problem and work with you to establish goals for treatment. The experienced staff works closely with your physician to provide continuity of care. State-of-the-art equipment and intervention allows you to perform highly defined movements and exercises that measure your rehabilitation progress.
